Beyond YOU: Leadercast 2014 and Dogwoods

Jack Tuszynski, Publisher of North Fulton Family Life magazine, won the door original oil painting of Georgia dogwoods.  I created this painting...but I don't like it.  Sometimes we like our own work and sometimes we don't.  This time I just didn't feel the love.  Firstly, it began as a very serene, quiet, peaceful cluster of dogwood blooms...but then, since that is not me,  it ended up a much more vibrant mix of colors.   Dogwoods, after all, do represent life, and life is not a calm, peaceful ride but more like an unpredictable
roller coaster.  At least mine is.  LOL.

The dogwood bloom brings hope anew every Easter.  It never fails to prolifically burst forward with wild and cultivated flowers to herald another spring, a new beginning, a never-give-up attitude, a fresh start, and life everlasting.

Jack's name was drawn at the conclusion of the 2014 Cherokee County Leadercast event which broadcasts nationwide and features leading speakers in the field of leadership and growth.  This year's theme was "Beyond You".  Reaching beyond just what is good for us, in order to embrace a bigger picture and widen our vision to include the well being of others.

I hope Jack enjoys his door prize...or gifts it to someone who will.  Ironically, he pointed out that his editorial page this month also features pink dogwoods.  What a cool "coincidence".

Take-aways from Leadercast this year:
"The value of a life is measured by how much of it was given away.  At funerals we celebrate generosity, not accumulation."   Andy Stanley

"How you treat others is a measure of you.  Be an encourager. Be grateful to those who do for them."
Desmond Tutu

"The best way to find out if you can trust someone is to trust them."  Ernest Hemingway

"Children are not very good at listening, but they are excellent at imitating. It is more what you do than what you say."  Laura Bush

"Double what you think is possible."  Bill McDermott

"Help others first."  Simon Sinek

"If you fail, do so by trying bravely."   Tripp Crosby

"You change a heart to change a mind." William Wallace

Enjoy the day!
